Clayton Evans
Clayton Evans is the instructor at the Palmerston North Goju Ryu Dojo.
Clayton became interested in karate while studying at Victoria University in Wellington. He started training around the year 2000 at the University Dojo under David Croxford, the head instructor at the time. He also received instruction from Sensei David Reddaway and Nigel Thomas, and at Wellington’s Newtown Dojo from Sensei Rajesh Ravji.
In 2002 Clayton moved to Tokyo, Japan and continued his training at the Oji Dojo in Tokyo under Sensei Miyawake. In 2007 he gained his 1st Dan black belt under Sensei Miyawake.
In 2007 Clayton returned to Wellington and resumed training at the University and Newtown Dojo, but in 2010 he moved to Palmerston North and took a break from training to start a family and begin a new career.
In 2016 Clayton resumed training in Shito Ryu Karate under Sensei Miho, gaining 1st Kyu brown belt.
In late 2023 Clayton reconnected with Goju Ryu Karate and opened the Palmerston North Goju Ryu Dojo in 2024.
